Opinion Line

Huntingdon — I want to say a big thank you to the bingo gang at Westminster Place at Huntingdon.

James Creek — Outstanding letter to the editor last week regarding the HASD and spending. Enough is definitely enough! I do hope others consider running and voting current HASB members out who cannot seem to hold the superintendent’s spending in check.

Huntingdon — One hundred thousand dollars for a director of curriculum has to be the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars in the history of the Huntingdon SD. It’s not needed for a district our size. I hope the school board checks monthly to see how my tax dollars are being spent for this position.

Huntingdon — You older women, I mean those over 70 years old and over, talking about these younger boys, sorry, I mean young men. Saying, oh boy look at that sexy hunk, etc. Don’t you ladies stop and think what could you possibly offer these young men? Money, don’t have enough, your looks hidden behind tons of makeup, the most you could possibly offer is, please help me with my adult diaper. Think of if you have a son or sons. Leave these men alone. Eat your donuts, drink your coffee, keep silent. Stop embarrassing yourselves in public.

Huntingdon — I just saw in the paper that Huntingdon Borough Council has gone back to the idiotic idea of putting a stop sign at 15th and Moore. Why? All this will do is create gridlock and fender benders. If the goal is to improve safety at 14th and Moore, put a traffic light there. It’s a natural stopping point and the sight lines are better. If it’s to address speeding, as was stated for all the other stop signs they plan to put up, it strikes me that a better solution would be to have the police actually do speed enforcement. White paint for the timing lines can’t cost that much, and it would actually encourage better driving behavior. Also, does the police department really need another gas hog pickup instead of an Explorer?

Mapleton — Can I just say how much i appreciate the person who keeps writing in about eating spiders? Definitely brings some laughter into my day.

Huntingdon Co. — Does it not shame you to want to pay your taxes and not have your name put in the paper? I could not believe some of the names I read and the amount you owe. Do you think you are entitled that you don’t have to pay your taxes? Shame, shame on you. I will think different on the people who had their names in the paper.

Huntingdon — Does any rational person really think we could change the temperature by driving electric vehicles? Especially when China, India, etc. are firing up coal plants faster than we can shut ours down. Humans will have to adapt to any changes that Mother Nature throws our way.

Huntingdon — Brandon and Granholm will long be remembered as some of the most energy-ignorant politicians ruined by their association with trying to make the Green New Deal a reality against the popular wishes of the voters.

Penn Twp. — Interpreting history is a major game of who’s on first and what’s on second? (baseball) Lytle’s Fort in Hartslog and Hartsock’s Fort in Woodcock can easily be confused. Particularly when the valleys are connected, the old books in the 1800s have errors, and the variations of the last name Hartsock can be spelled Hartsog or Hertzog, etc. If we recall, John Hart had a trading post (Alexandria) with a water trough for horses. Hart’s log equals Hartslog. Indeed, the mistakes written in history will continue in modern times. Hartsock’s Fort, a military post, was built near Marklesburg in 1778 by the Hartsocks.

Petersburg— To the writer from Huntingdon who seems to think same sex marriage is not discussed in the Bible, I would refer you to Romans 1:26-30, Leviticus 18:22, I Corinthians 6:9, or any number of other verses which clearly reflect God’s view on same sex marriage. Perhaps your “woke version” of the Bible, as you call it, is missing these verses. While you are right to point out that, as Christians, we need to love everyone, at the same time, we cannot simply “affirm” or condone what is clearly wrong. Today, Christian churches are under attack by radicals who demand Christians conform to their warped world view. It is not my place to judge anyone, but neither is it my obligation to “affirm” what is contrary to God’s word.

Penn Twp. — DNA never changes. One hundred years from now, DNA remains unchanged. Humans are male or female.

Huntingdon — I am not a spokesperson for Anthony Bullett, but to the caller a couple weeks ago, I believe Anthony does certainly get it. From his letters he understands what gender affirming care is. He has obviously read of the reported overwhelming success of this care developed by mental health and medical professionals and deemed as life-saving. He has repeatedly stated the gender affirming care for preteens and teens rarely includes any surgical procedures. I get that he understands that what transpires between a patient and his/her medical team is their business. He gets that mistakes should be exposed and any malpractice punished. What I get is that the attention to transgender people is overblown and that we should be focusing on real issues such as keeping our children and adults safe from gun violence. Anthony and I both seemingly get it much more than the caller does.

Hopewell — Trump said he will run for the presidency even as a convicted felon. It shows he thinks he is above the law and wants to be our dictator!

Huntingdon — I see the competition for Garden of the Month is in full swing. Both homeowners and businesses are in a tight battle when it comes to high grass and weeds. Leaving town, you’ll see we have vegetation growing around guardrails and curbs. Weeds are growing up street signs. That’s just a couple blocks on Washington Street. Others are in the running for this award. Travel down Susquehanna Avenue for more potential winners. Maybe this town needs to appoint a weeds commissioner to oversee this problem. Or, we could just continue to appreciate the wild things on our streets.

Three Springs — People at southern Huntingdon need to wake up. If a superintendent has enough time to cover a principal position for basically half of the school year, then why have two positions? He obviously has enough free time on his hands for making over 100k. The board also gave him more money to cover the position, but I highly doubt he works any extra hours. Cushion his retirement pay in a few years.

Three Springs — A recent opinion cited various statements made about climate change. It is a great example of failure to evaluate source credibility or knowledge of planetary heat factors. Being no expert myself, I recommend listening to credible sources. James Hanson testified before Congress in 1988 and did a TED talk in 2013. His statements have proven accurate and ominous. Now the evidence is even more compelling. There are many examples in the past of humans causing and ignoring environmental changes at great cost. Easter Island, dust bowl, to mention a couple. This time it means losing the earth’s surface. I hope we choose wisely, a mistake could be tragic.

Huntingdon Boro. — I have recently experienced the services of the Broad Top clinic in Huntingdon, have seen two different doctors who have been extremely helpful, kind and personable. The waiting period was brief and all the services were efficient. It’s a truly wonderful service to this community and should receive accolades from all of us.

Mount Union — It seems to be okay to riot and cause billions of dollars of damage but you can’t show that in a music video. Shame on CMT!

Shirley Twp. — I can’t believe that all Democratic parents and grandparents who are members of Congress would want their daughters and granddaughters to have biological males changing clothes in their locker rooms. They all voted for this. Not too many years ago, men would be arrested for this. This country is rotting from the top down and the inside out. Why aren’t the women’s rights groups screaming against this?

Logan Twp. — The caller from Huntingdon is right, there is nothing specific in the Bible about same sex marriage. However, the Bible (God’s word) is very clear about homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 states a command: “You shall not lie with a man as a woman; it is an abomination.” It doesn’t take a Bible scholar to draw the conclusion that same sex marriage isn’t acceptable to God. Romans 1 (which is too long to include here, but please read) speaks of God’s wrath against mankind when ignoring God. 1 Corinthians 6:b9-10: “Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor the drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God.” When one believes, one believes all of His word because he wants only the best for us.

Orbisonia — What is going on? House of Representatives out of session for six weeks? Who has the privilege of vacationing that long? I get the vacation part. We all need one. I can see maybe two weeks, tops. After all, these representative are representing us to run our country but to be out that long. The world is constantly turning, things are happening daily, weekly, hourly. Even a regular law-abiding citizen has some important episode, whether it be mild or stressful or whatever. But to put it on hold for six weeks? I don’t think anybody lives this way. I know these representatives have a lot to work on like the economy, education, climate, etc., but all these problems don’t stop when taking a vacation. I just don’t understand how anybody can put their problems on hold for six weeks.

Hesston — I had breakfast with your cousin, brother and ex-daughter-in-law. Your ex-daughter- in-law was very happy to show them some things on her phone. Sounded to me like your cousin found a few pictures of something that you lied about having. Your brother was not surprised about the thing he saw because he already knew you stole them. He simply said your mother-in-law and your dad covered most of it just to save the humiliation. Your cousin has a different plan. It’s not a good look.

Shirley Twp. — I find it hard to believe that the president of the MUASD school board has not read the contract of our superintendent Dr Amy Smith. I would like to know what Dr. Smith has on the school board president and other school board members that they allow Dr. Smith to push them around as if they have no voice. You, the school board, work for the students and the parents of this school district. We have come to you time after time with our concerns, but you don’t listen. If you have no intentions on helping our children, then resign. It’s time to start calling every news station, the attorney general and anyone who will listen. We’re done waiting until our district is bankrupt.

Alexandri— I saw that someone complained about an unlicensed vehicle on the street in Alexandria. I must agree in asking, when will borough ordinances be enforced? That vehicle on the street is at least clean. Why has the dirty mess been allowed to continue on the 300 block of Main Street? It’s continued to get worse over the past few years. Please, let’s clean up our town!

Huntingdon — Look into the practices of your up and coming commissioner. Things aren’t always what they seem. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Don’t be fooled. What people are saying about him is true. Open your eyes. A good talker, he is on his A game, him being a stand up guy, he is far from it.

Wayne Twp. — Just because someone has the certification to hold a position, it doesn’t mean they can do the job. Dr. Amy Smith might have the certification, but she has no idea how to do the job. Our school district has a $3.6 million dollar deficit. Dr. Smith had Dr. Timothy Shrom come give a talk on the budget, but she failed to give him the complete background on why our school is in such bad shape. If Dr. Smith thinks the truth isn’t going to come out, guess again. We the parents of this school district are going to start making sure we are heard. Someone has got to go!

Huntingdon — This is pertaining to people who cut grass. How hard is it to sweep the clippings? So many people are still throwing it on the road and that’s where it stays. Another complaint, do we have a code inspector? I have complained about the living conditions of a house. Things have not changed. High weeds, high grass, junk on the sidewalk.

Brady Twp. — You are being warned: stop burning plastic in your trash or you’ll be turned into DEP. Inhaling burnt plastic and burning plastic garbage releases toxic fumes linked to an increase in cases of cancer, asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Particularly, styrene and PVC can be found in plastic trash, leading to potentially harmful emissions like styrene gas and other highly poisonous compounds. Don’t be a cheapskate and sneaky bad neighbor. We won’t tolerate your bad manners. Nicest weather outside this day (Aug. 2), we have to close our windows and stay inside. You just ruined it for the entire community. You are breaking the law and causing harm to others. Shameful.

Penn Twp. — Bruce Harvey, a well-known Atlanta criminal-defense attorney, commenting on Mr. Trump’s impending trial for imploring Brad Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes,” a number that would have overturned Joe Biden’s victory in the state, said he could never defend Trump because he sees him as more dangerous than even violent offenders. “Trump kills the truth, and that’s much more dangerous than killing one person.” One man killing the truth and currently being the Republican Party’s leading candidate for the presidency in 2024 speaks well for the Republican Party.

Huntingdon Co. — The liberal party should be ashamed of themselves as they destroy future generation of young people in so many different ways. It takes an act of wickedness, which the liberal party is without, having any conscience. Shame on you, liberals! Your selfishness and warped ideology is totally of Satan. You may get away with your destruction for now, but that’ll only last for a season until God steps in with His righteousness that will prevail. If I were you, I’d be very concerned about my soul being cast into hell for eternity. But you people have no conscience because you’re wicked, having no feelings or care for our children, nor family or even yourselves. Yes, your time will come. This country has been infected with sin so much that you liberals have a calloused heart, and compromising with sin turning it into right. A trick from the devil himself.

Huntingdon Co. — To the caller from Hesston, I, too, have seen liberals in the Opinion Line using the phrases MAGA Trump followers and Republican Christians. They assume we’re sheep and think we can’t do our own thinking, even though they can’t. Obviously, they don’t believe there is a God. So to them, I say, enjoy the time you have left on earth. As for the MAGA people, hold your heads high and stand strong. You are true American patriots. As for the Christians again, I say, hold your heads high. We’re in a spiritual warfare and know the outcome of Satan and his followers. The liberal obstructionist are tearing down our nation that took blood, sweat and tears to come about. They’re no longer Americans, but rather the enemy of this country. Further proof is the steady decline liberals are causing.

Three Springs — To the person setting leg iron traps or snares in the area of Monroe Valley Road, we would like to let you know what your senseless act has done to the little cat you caught. He has undergone a $4,000 operation to remove his leg and will forever be defenseless as a three-legged cat. Have you considered the pain and suffering he has to endure? Try stepping into one of your traps — perhaps then you will remove them.

Porter Twp. — Looks like the boss is sunk, and the desantiseptic bottle is empty. Losers, both of them. Fox still fake news and rhetoric is a scam from the top down. The Murdochs have no place in America. Take all your liars and go. Flunky Trump said his criminal problems would vanish if not for the election, just like COVID was going to vanish after the last two elections. Baloney, like everything he says.

Huntingdon — I see the U.N. gave me another chapter in my history of climate change last week. I guess climate change is now over and it’s now the earth is boiling. Why would anyone listen to anything coming out of the U.N. is beyond me? I’m guessing the Biden administration will contact Bill Gates about his plan to build a shade to block some of the sun’s rays from reaching earth. The scary part is, they actually talked and considered this. So much for the solar panel farms?

Shirley Twp. — Doesn’t the township supervisor realize it’s Bidenomics working, even here in our township?

Williamsburg — Facts: President Biden’s determination to “build the economy from the middle out and the bottom up,” appears to be paying off. Last Friday the global financial services company Morgan Stanley credited Biden’s policies with driving a boom in large-scale infrastructure and manufacturing, a boom large enough that Morgan Stanley revised its gross domestic product projections upward to almost four times higher than its original projection. Analysts doubled their projections for the fourth quarter, and raised forecasts for next year, as well. “The economy in the first half of the year is growing much stronger than we had anticipated,” Morgan Stanley’s chief U.S. economist Ellen Zentner wrote. Part of their reasoning comes from a surge in manufacturing construction across the country thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, investing in roads and bridges, and the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act invests in science and semiconductor chip manufacturing.

Mapleton — Gee, as always, demo-rats just can’t speak nor write without lying. Remember, a court order made Donald Trump’s financial records public. Both IRS and Social Security records clearly show Trump has never collected Social Security benefits. As president, President Trump didn’t even accept his entitled-to presidential salary. Various federal records show President Trump donated his entire salary back to various federal government departments that help, veterans, drug addicts, repair national parks, improve border security, provide educational camps for underprivileged girls and help small businesses. Like a true Christian, Trump served the poor and middle class as a president should. Biden hasn’t and doesn’t. Bribery-king Biden’s tax records show greedy Joe Biden collects his annual $400,000 salary plus another $49,545 annually in Social Security payments. To thank us taxpayers, Biden wrote dozens of executive orders which inflation-taxes us deeper into poverty and government-submission.

McVeytown — Thanks to all at Community Chapel of Hesston who work so hard to do the senior luncheon. Thanks to Rev. Scott Decker for his strong faith and sense of humor at bringing the message. May God richly bless you all and your family.

Henderson Twp. — There are more Democrats in this country than Republicans and the Republicans have always been able to rule, even know they’re a minority through gerrymandering and voter suppression, but thanks to Mitch McConnell stealing the Supreme Court nominee off of Obama and another off of Biden and stacking the court in the Republican favor, they don’t have to win another election. They have the Supreme Court in their pocket and can get whatever they want like like gay rights and Roe v. Wade.

Mount Union — People are yelling about the Mount Union Area School District and what not. I understand there’s a problem with the superintendent. There may be some unqualified teachers down there, I don’t know. I do know one thing, that teachers are teaching the students. If some of you parents would take the time out when your child gets home from school and help them with their homework, help them study and stuff like that. Some of you parents want to send your students to charter school. That’s fine. Why don’t shouldn’t you have to pay half of the bill? That’s my thing. And some of you parents have autistic children you want them to go to a a public school, get a public education. Why? I mean, that’s why we have teacher aides down at the school. That would cut out the teachers’ aides and they’d save a lot more money.

Mount Union — I see Mapleton has a blight problem up there in their little town. What about down here in Mount Union? There’s all kinds of rundown houses down here in Mount Union. There’s one that burnt down years ago and it’s still standing up. Nothing being done about that. They had the money to tear it down, but they never tore it down. I’m talking about the people who owned it. What about out here in Shirley Township in Allenport. There’s a rundown place out here in Allenport. Why doesn’t Shirley Township go after those ones? There’s people who have junk in their yard, couple trailers in their yard all junked up. The building isn’t that great of shape. Why don’t they have some kind of ordinance for that? I know there’s one that you guys worry about in Allenport, but what about the other ones?

Huntingdon — To date, $40 million has been spent on lawyers this year alone. If you’re sending donations to Donald Trump, your hard-earned dollars are going to pay his lawyers. Your money is not helping him become president again, it’s helping him stay out of jail. Jail is where some of his employees will probably go just for doing what their boss asked them to do. Donald Trump never pays for his crimes, he just gets others to pay. He continues to lie and call every person in the world a liar. None of this would have happened if Donald had just returned the documents. He was asked for over 18 months to return the document, as every other president before him had done.

Smithfield — To the MAGA Christian from Hesston, I love my Jesus very much. I feel sorry for you. You do not live in the real world. So you were proud to stand with Trump? Biden has more integrity and honor in his little finger then Trump does in his whole body. You’re proud Trump abuses and possibly rapes women, lies, cheats, steals, takes minority rights, takes slavery from our history? Trump opens his mouth and people get hurt and killed. You’re okay with this? Trump needs prosecuted and sent to jail. He is a sick, pathetic man, and so are his followers. My God loves all people. President Biden has done more for our country in two and one-half years than Trump has ever done. Trump spreads hate, along with his followers. God is not hate, He is love. Talk with God. He will help you.

Huntingdon Co. — I see in The Daily News on the local news and everything all we’re talking about is new high school sports programs and all this and not talking about education. Like it was said before, administrators, the school board and the faculty are more interested in sports programs than they are in education for kids and the kids are suffering from it. When you have kids who cannot do basic math, read or write, it’s very sad that our country puts up with this and waste our tax dollars on sports programs and extracurricular activities a few special kids participate in. A lot of kids can’t. They don’t have the funding or whatever. If they want to have sports, they need to fund it themselves.

Mapleton — It’s nice to know that our maintenance boy is at the other end of the river bridge weeding and mowing around all those signs over there, which is in Brady Henderson townships. I didn’t know they were supposed to take care of around all the signs and somebody else’s contact. What he needs to be doing is probably picking up the brush that’s piled up in people’s at the end of their driveway. I think it’s just a shame we have to pay for those signs to be weeded around and trimmed around. You know that’s our tax dollars being wasted for nothing.

Hopewell — America was not made great by the likes of Donald Trump, an excused draft dodger. With this being in his path, he should never have belittled an honorable veteran like John McCain for being a POW only because he disagreed with him on a policy. How arrogant and disrespectful. Surprisingly, so many retired veterans view Trump as an icon. How ironic. Trump seems to have the mind control over people like Hitler did.

Mount Union — The only thing that was wrong with the smoker on Jefferson Street is the person it bothers the most. Instead of going around looking for what you think are problems, just looked in the mirror at the worst problem of all. You need a hobby. Try collecting birds’ nests. The time will do you good. Or, better yet, try minding your own business.

Huntingdon — Did everyone say that over $40 million the GOP has raised for the Republican Party is being spent on Trump’s legal fees? It’s hard to believe that the people in this country still think that this biggest con criminal is still great. What ‘s done to this democracy of this country, he shouldn’t even be allowed to live in this country, let alone run for office. You Republic-cons keep sending your hard-earned contributions in and go to church this Sunday and worship this idiot.

Huntingdon — it’s going to be so nice when the state of Pennsylvania legalizes marijuana.

Huntingdon — The Republican Party was once known as the party of law and order, the party of Lincoln, the party at John McCain, the military. They are now considering nominating a man who has is publicly disrespected everyone. Today, 44 people who worked in the Trump White House were asked if they support him today. Only four of them do. Think about that.

Huntingdon — This is a message to my inconsiderate neighbor who lets its dog defecate in my yard. The borough has an ordinance against this. If I catch you or your dog, I’m going to report you and I hope you have a hefty fine. You are very, very inconsiderate of your neighbors.

Oneida Twp. — Thank you so much to the honest person at Walmart Friday who found my purse in the shopping cart and took it to customer service. You saved me a lot of stress and anguish. There are still good people in this world and in this county.

Shade Gap — Simon Sinek said when people feel safe and now to raise their hands and say I made a mistake or I need some help, the leader has created an environment where people feel safe to be themselves. A team is not a group of people who work together, a team is a group of people who trust each other. When people are constantly leaving the team, it tells you where you should be looking to correct things, rather than rewarding such behavior with the 2.5% pay increase and a $20,000 stipend for a job they should’ve already been expected to complete.

Mount Union — What is going on with the building on the corner of Shirley and Jefferson? It is been empty since there was a fire. Pieces of wood are starting to fall on the sidewalk. Does council have any idea when this building will be fixed?

Mount Union — Everyone is blaming President Trump or President Biden for all these problems. Remember how things were before Putin went into Ukraine? It wasn’t that bad at all, was it? At least I didn’t think so. We need Putin to get out of Ukraine and things would look a lot better.

McConnellstown — Walker Township Supervisors did it again. Now they want to raise our property taxes and water and sewer rates. Enough is enough. Bad supervisors. Please vote them out come November.

Mount Union — I heard the Mount Union Borough Council wants to purchase the building on the corner of Division and Shirley streets for the new borough office. There’s no parking for number one. Where will the drop off be for people who work? How will the elderly and disabled be able to get to the borough office or the tax office? Why not think about the First National Bank that sits empty.

Huntingdon Co. — Rumors are hurtful, especially when they are nothing but lies. The last nine months have been a sad time for her. She is trying to move on with her life and to have someone make up ugly untruthful stories is just ridiculous. I suggest when you’re on your daily 100-mile ride, you stop and tell everyone that you are a liar and you made up those stories, those rumors that you told them. For once in your life, do the decent thing. You know who you are.

Henderson Twp. — You gotta wonder who’s really ruling the House now or who’s in control? What’s going on in D.C.? If it’s not Fetterman who doesn’t know where he’s at or can’t string a sentence together and then, of course, most recently, you got the Republican side, Mitch McConnell, just kinda zoning out for 30 seconds. Didn’t know. They had to take him away. And then, our fearless leader never met a step he likes or can he even read from a teleprompter. Gee, who’s actually pulling the strings? One has to wonder. And of course, we know the war in Ukraine, that’s basically for money, pure and simple. We know who’s pockets of getting lined. It’s OK if you have coke flowing in the White House. It puts them in a more malleable frame of mind so they can accept those funds from the foreign countries that don’t like us anyways.

Three Springs — The Three Springs Senior Center would like to give a big thank you to the McConnellsburg Senior Center for inviting us for a picnic at Cowans Gap. We all had a great time and would also like to give a big thank you to Linda White and Donna Mitchell for all they do for us. We really appreciated it all so very much. And last, we would like to thank the Three Springs Living Waters Church for everything they do for us. You ladies are the best. God bless you all.
